Accidental Assassin

Unreal Engine Blueprints C++ Level Design Game Design UI Implementation Collaboration

Accidental Assassin is a stealth-action game prototype I served as the project manager and gameplay engineer for while studying abroad at Northumbria University in Spring 2023 as part of an Unreal Engine game development course. The game emphasizes careful planning, environmental awareness, and using stealth mechanics to take out targets without directly harming them.

For this project, I worked primarily in Unreal Engine using both Blueprint scripting and some C++. My contributions included developing the weapons and throwing mechanics, designing the combat system, creating interactive UI elements, creating the menus, and implementing player abilities. I also handled several UI design tasks, providing players with weapon and game information through UI elements.

As the project manager, I coordinated the team’s workflow and ensured we stayed on schedule by breaking tasks into achievable milestones. I regularly communicated between the artist, AI programmer, and sound designer to align their work with gameplay needs and keep the vision consistent. I organized weekly check-ins, documented progress, and adjusted priorities when new challenges came up, making sure the project moved forward smoothly and efficiently. This role gave me valuable experience balancing project scope, time constraints, and creative goals while maintaining team morale.

This project gave me deeper experience in Unreal Engine Blueprints, understanding AI perception systems, and creating gameplay systems that encourage multiple playstyles. It also taught me how to design levels that guide players toward stealthy solutions while still offering flexibility.
